To my many dear friends of the South Princess Anne Charge whom I love so well and for whom I have the greatest admiration, I dedicate this collection as a token of the deepest best wishes that I hold for them always.

May the Grace of God shine on our works so that we might earn for ourselves the crown of eternal life through Christ Jesus.

I have been Superintendent of Knott's Island Methodist Sunday School for twenty-five or thirty years. It has been a pleasure in many ways to work with the different classes of the school.

I have had many problems, but I think it has been very successful owing to the handicap of not having class rooms. The drive is on at this time for this cause.

My greatest problem has been getting teachers for the different classes, but I thank all members for the co-operation which they have given me in this work.

At the third Quarterly Conference of last year I asked to be relieved, but by the fourth Quarterly Conference no one had accepted; I could not let my Sunday School and members say we have no superintendent.

We are looking forward to a bigger and better Sunday School this year and years to come. May all members and officials of the Knott's Island Methodist Sunday School pray for the advancement of the school in the year of our Lord, 1950

JAMES W. REYNOLDS, JR. PASTOR

The pastor of the South Princess Anne Charge is no stranger to this part of the state, for he was born at the Nimmo Parsonage, London Bridge, Princess Anne County, Virginia, on March 21, 1925 the son of the Rev. James, Sr., and Eunice Reynolds.

He received his childhood education in Portsmouth City and Chesterfield County, while Petersburg and Reedville in Northumberland County were the scenes of his secondary education. In January of 1945 he received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Randolph-Macon College and his Bachelor of Divinity from Duke University Divinity School in June, 1948. While at Randolph-Macon he was a member of CLERICUS and the Washington Literary Society. He was also honored by election to Phi Beta Kappa. At Duke he was a member of the Official Board and the Student Religious Council of the Duke University Church.

His service as student appointee includes the Providence Charge of the Rappahannock District, the Burlington Circuit of the Durham District, the Crooks Memorial Church, Yorktown, of the Norfolk District, and as a Methodist Youth Caravaner the summer of 1946.

If asked what was the greatest influence that led him to enter the ministry, Mr. Reynolds would quickly reply, "My home and parental influence."

Now in his third year as pastor of the South Princess Anne Charge, he married Miss Margaret Ruth Taylor of Ashville, North Carolina on October 5, 1949. They reside at the parsonage, Creeds, Virginia.

KNOTTS ISLAND The gold letters on the Knott' s Island Methodist Church announce to the world that it was established in 1811 and has been in existence ever since. Its first house or meeting place was in someone's home and a few years later, about 1825, a house was moved from an eighth of a mile or less to the north on the main road down to the present site. The frequency of sermons is not known, but as in other out-of-the-way places, some member read the Bible and perchance a circuit rider would pass through several times during the year.
